Ingredients

  • 2 cups of ground meat of your choice (I used chicken, you can use beef, pork, lentils or TVP)
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp grated ginger (1 tsp ginger powder if you don’t have fresh)
  • 1/2 tsp Chinese 5 spice (substitute: nutmeg)
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 stalks of celery, sliced
  • 1 medium carrot, grated
  • 2 cups of cabbage, grated or sliced
  • 1/4 cup frozen peas (optional)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
  • 1 sliced green onion (optional)
  • 1 tsp sriracha (optional)

Method:

  1. Put your oil in the pan, add your meat, soy sauce, ginger and spices then begin browning your ground meat;
  2. When meat is browned add in your onion, celery and carrot and cook until tender;
  3. Finally, add in your cabbage, stir to combine then cover until your cabbage is bright and cooked but still have some crunch;
  4. If you have it, mix in your sesame oil for additional flavour and peas, then serve over your favourite rice;
  5. Garnish with sesame seeds, green onion and sriracha if desired.
